The largest bird in Africa that can fly is the Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori). These impressive birds are known for their size and their ability to take to the air despite their hefty build. They are the heaviest flying bird native to Africa.
Kori Bustards can weigh up to about 40 pounds (18 kilograms) and have a wingspan of around 8 to 9 feet (2.5 to 2.8 meters). Despite their large size, they are capable of short bursts of powerful flight, often taking off when startled or to move to new feeding grounds. However, they spend much of their time on the ground, walking and foraging for food such as insects, small mammals, reptiles, and seeds.
Their ability to fly is somewhat limited to short distances due to their weight and bulk, and they usually prefer to conserve energy by walking or running rather than taking to the air for extended periods.
